It’s been a year since my friends and I have created this small group that meets once a month to paint in watercolor. Our group meet just mostly consists of following some tutorials on youtube or a book, and then of course, as with all Filipino gatherings, sharing some food over merienda / gouter / snack.

Keukenhof
Went to Keukenhof with a friend mid-April during the Tulip Season. I also tried to do some painting plein air, but the madding crowd rendered the act impossible. Anyway, more of the story on the travel blog.

I can’t believe it’s already been a year since I’ve ventured into watercolor painting. With the help of supportive group of friends and my family for inspiration, I am really quite happy with the improvements I’ve made over the course of a year…

My first trip to Africa that did not really feel like Africa at all…
Continue reading “Cape Verde”Biko Birthday Cake
I’ve decided to make good use of the gorgeous rice from Cagayan Valley in the Philippines that was gifted by a friend, and decided to make some Biko. I found a simple recipe here. I just adjusted the sugar to my taste. And found that the rice needed more coconut milk than was mentioned in the recipe.

Up on the travel blog…
Winter must be cold for those with no warm memories — that famous quote from that famous Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr movie. Glad I got plenty of them from last summer. And all the previous ones. Enough to keep me warm for a lifetime, most especially on bleak autumn days like the ones we’re having this week.
Keep warm, folks!
Village of the Damned
Back in the 80’s and the early 90’s, my siblings and I, along with my kiddie cousins would watch lots of movies during the summer break. One of the few horror movies that made an indelible mark in the psyche was “Village of the Damned”. I had long forgotten the title, actually. I just googled, “horror movie kids with white hair” to find the title and some video clips. I even found out that it was already a remake of the original from 1960. Thanks, Google. Looks even creepier in black and white.
I’m not usually into scary movies. But kids like to be spooked by nature. Aside from the spooks, what made it interesting for me was that it starred Superman, a.k.a. Christopher Reeve. I’d watch anything with Superman in it. Also in the cast was Luke Skywalker. Not a big fan, though. Just shared for a bit of trivia.

Some of my favorite snaps from Fète des Mères (Mother’s Day) here in France, which is celebrated last Sunday of May.
Friday, I received a gift from my daughter which is a drawing she did in school. I find it funny that I was portrayed as a very brown, almost black person with blue eyes. 😄 Nevertheless, she has really very good drawing skills for a six-year old.
Updates and Random Stuff
What have I been up to lately?..
Driving a lot… trying to remove my fear of the big roads and the crowded car parks. Getting there. Meanwhile, I am a big fan of the roundabouts now… more practical and efficient than stop lights.
Trying very hard not to overshare on social media. I have removed facebook on my phone… wait, was it a good idea to share that here? If you have not yet put a tape on your computer’s webcam and microphone, do it NOW.
Planning future travels. So excited!
Learning to paint in Watercolor. It’s not as easy as it looks. But so far, I really love how the paint does not stink at all, or not get in the way of healthy breathing, unlike acrylics and pastel.

This blog entry recounts my travails on acquiring the French Nationality as a Spouse of a French Citizen. The steps mentioned in this article are applicable to those living outside of France.
After only five months, my application for French Nationality was accepted! It was a surprisingly short period of processing time, considering that for most people, it usually takes one year, or six months at the very least.
Since I am ever so happy and pleased about this experience, I thought I’d share with you the journey, and the not-so-straightforward, step-by-step procedures, the timeline, and some of the cost of the requirements on how to acquire French Nationality.
